Dog days of summer today! Happened to see several, had a couple of nice chats. Both of these little guys were kinda sad today, so they came out to road to say hello. They were hot, they were bored, and I’m surmising they missed the kids at home. Most kids at the Malvern School district started back on August 19 - you think they’d gotten used to it but not yet. So they both got a hearty ear scratch, a tail wag, but I did have to insist they go home, If it were up to me, I’d take them with, all of them, and we could all walk over the George Washington bridge, which has been quite free of delays lately. Haven’t gotten an update in several hours!
Very nice walk today, more of the same beautiful. I knew it was going to be long, longest so far I think, so I just prepared for it mentally, and body followed. Door to door was 25.4 miles, interrupted only by a great late lunch at El Parian. Seems you can always count on the Mexican restaurant in all these little towns, usually really good. Was hot, but I’ve either gotten used to it, or I’m just getting in better shape. I get tired of course, but nowhere near what it was during week one. And nothing really hurts, beyond the normal aches and pains of 20+ mile walking, Only drawback is that it eats up a lot of time, time I need to revamp this website and fix some of the connections. I’ll do that someday soon, after a cooler, shorter day.
Do have to hand it to Arkansas… they’ve got the best names for their towns. Only problem with this one is that it isn’t big enough.
Spent quite a bot of time talking on the phone this morning, lots of different people. Apologize for the background noise in my office, but it is what it is. My friend Dana asked me an interesting question, that is, whether this walk had so far been what I imagined or better. Immediate response was several times better, but it got me thinking. I really don’t know if it is better or worse, because I approached this with a very very open mind and very few expectations of what it would actually be like. So all I can say is that it has been awesome, for many reasons, which will all eventually emerge, I knew it would be cool, but not this cool.
More later of course… your amateur writer and walker is pretty tired tonight. Brain just got a low battery message, so I’m shutting it down. Peace.
