Oh this is too cool… had a 20.5 mile walk up Hwy 59, by surprise, a great dinner next door, a couple of Blue Moon’s, and am lying very comfortably in Jefferson. TX, in an old, like 1865 old building. Below a copy/paste from their website..

Bring ‘em on… hope they’re in a good mood, on this great Wednesday. This is kind of a nice change from the chain hotels I’ve been frequenting… I appreciate their newness and cleanliness, but this place is awesome, feel like I’m in someone’s home… maybe Billies??

Left a little late again today, was planning on going by to say bye to the girls at Matthewson’s, but that was an additional couple of miles, so I’ll see then when they come to NY… they promised they would :-)

Didn’t expect to be walking on Hwy 59, which fortunately up here is totally different from the six lane monster it becomes in Houston. Many hours traveled on 59 through H-town, but today very happy walking away from all that. I did a lot of cool things in Houston, home of the largest medical center in the world. Was on the forefront of using computed radiography for portal imaging in radiation therapy, clinical trials at MD Anderson, then moving into general medical digital imaging, some pretty cool, cutting edge technology. Always liked working in Houston - some very smart people, and I learned an enormous amount from all of them, much smarter than I.

Prior to working in Houston, it was always a stopover, as my sister Monica lived there for several years, and it was my Dad’s “medical” city, where he had all his routine, and non-routine on a couple of occasions, procedures. Again, happy to be walking northbound.

Nothing much to report along the road. Quite a lot of traffic at first but then it calmed down. Had fun for the last couple of hours listening to straight-up disco music! Took me back to the Quetzal and the Bandasha, places of my youth in Mexico City. Went from Disco Inferno to Donna Summer to Lady Bump, who everyone back in my day thought was so outrageous (at least our mom’s did!)… looking back, we were pretty innocent, but we all kind of knew what we wanted and went for it... we were for the most part pretty bold. Amazing how a good song well listened to can take you back to some pretty long gone places.\

Had some fun trying to figure out how much elevation change happened on these hills, so in my sort-of scientific method, I measured a couple… here’s one..

So this looks like a fairly decent hill… base was at 244 feet. I expected at least 100 foot rise, but if this altimeter is accurate, which it is, it wasn’t even half that, not even 50 feet, which, according to Google maps, is about one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of the vertical change along the route.

I best be getting into shape.

Will report on any paranormal activity… if you don’t hear from me in a week, call someone… actually, call someone tomorrow, someone you’ve been meaning to call, but have found all kinds of excuses to delay!
